Scholastic Book Fair
During my first few years of teaching, a colleague and I got together and started up the Scholastic Book Fair in Wrangell, Alaska for each Fall. This ended up becoming an elementary teacher sponsored event, that is still a tradition today. Students get very excited to have the book fair where they can go and preview the books prior to the sale, and then attend the sale with their family in the evening. All proceeds are deposited into a teacher discretionary fund for purchasing literacy materials for our classrooms.
Up until a couple of years ago, the elementary teachers partnered with the Friends of the Library who offered an amazing dessert bar in conjunction with the Scholastic Book Fair. I mean, what is better? Books and Desserts are a great combination! We thank the Friends of the Library for this partnership and many years of service to this community event. The past couple years, the tradition has lived on with the local high school Close Up fundraising team taking over the dessert bar activity.
